Our Story

Apawthecary was born from our passion for natural pup care. We knew we had to embark on creating it as soon as we had the idea…

We met in August of 2020. As a Naturopathic Practitioner, Betty, (left) had been highly recommended to me by several friends and acquaintances. I (Renée - right) was in pursuit of becoming the healthiest version of myself possible. I had started on a quest to eliminate harsh chemicals from my every day life and that led me to exploring more natural options for my dogs as well.

We quickly connected over our love of animals. It was at that point that I looked to Betty for help with finding the ‘cleanest’ products possible for my pups. To my surprise, even products and brands that claim to be natural contain artificial ingredients and potentially harmful fillers. Betty offered to make a couple of products for my dogs. I was so relieved to finally have safe products to use and I was amazed by the results.

Shortly after that, I invited Betty out to brunch and asked if she might be interested in starting a business together focused on creating all-natural pup care products. The rest, as they say, is herstory.

"We hoped that one day we’d be able to find natural care for our dogs, the same kinds of products we were using on ourselves: natural, hand-crafted, and effective. We didn’t know then that we’d be the ones creating them."

Combining my twenty year background in the beauty industry with Betty’s expertise in Natural Health, along with our passion for the ultimate wellbeing of our pets, we set out to create a line of all-natural products to help alleviate the most common health and grooming issues for our four-legged family members.

Through extensive research, trial and error and plenty of TLC, we created the highly effective formulas featuring top-quality, clean ingredients we were seeking.

“When Renée asked me to join her in business and create natural products for dogs I immediately said, “Yes!”.

In my second career as a Naturopathic Practitioner, I always wondered how I could include dogs, and this was the perfect way to do it: I could use my knowledge of natural raw materials and plants to help formulate and develop products to help make dog’s lives better.

I’d been playing around with formulating products to help my nine year-old Sheltie, Rosie, with her allergies and skin issues. I was buoyed by the idea of extending this to other dogs, and so Apawthecary Pup Care came into being.

The Pups Behind the Brand – Meet Our Dogs!

  • Rosie

    Life must be luxe as the paw-aughter of a co-founder, but Rosie doesn’t let it get to her head. She’s busy rounding up everyone in the house and keeping an eye on what’s happening outside the picture window. She’s always ready for a ride or to take Betty on a walk around the pond to visit the ducks.

  • Lucca

    Lucca is affectionately referred to by his paw-rents as being part human and part muppet. He has a deep, empathetic soul but is also a big goofball at times. He loves going for his daily walks with his pack and gives the best hugs ever.

  • Charlie

    Super smart and spunky, Charlie is a pooch who loves spending most of his time outdoors. Even with two brisk walks a day, Charlie has energy to burn and loves playing fetch in the front yard. You can often find him playing with his bestie Gracie or keeping an eye out for neighbourhood cats, birds and delivery drivers.

  • Gracie

    This beautiful 6 year old Golden is best described by her paw-rents as being a ‘love bug’ extraordinaire. Gracie is super affectionate and loves meeting new people. In true Golden-style she loves to greet you with a wiggle in her butt and a squeaky toy in her mouth. She gets super excited at meal time and will spin in circles until it’s time to dig in.

  • Basil

    This sweet senior rescue was an outdoor dog for most of his life but now considers himself an oversized lap dog. Basil loves going for walks, car rides and snuggling between his paw-rents each night in bed. He is his mom’s shadow, hanging out with her in the kitchen or curled up next to her demanding all of the affection that he richly deserves.
